Ski area value

Weighting of ski area size, comfort and snow reliability

Weighting of the factors to determine the ski area value

The Montenius ski area value results from the weighting of the three factors ski area size in Skimiles, comfort and snow reliability (the theories and the state of research on which this valuation concept is based can be found here). For this purpose, the results for the individual factors must first be reduced to a common denominator:

  • Ski area size: Skimiles of the ski area divided by the worldwide optimum of 609 Skimiles x 10 = size value on a scale of 1-10
  • Comfort: result on the scale of 1-10
  • Snow reliability: Snow reliability of the ski area in percentage divided by worldwide optimum of 141,5% x 10 = snow reliability value on a scale of 1-10.

The calculated values are multiplied by the weight of the respective factor. The weighting of ski area size, comfort and snow reliability is based on a correlation analysis between ski area values and ticket prices. With the selected weighting, there is a maximum correlation between price and value.

To determine the ski area value for a single ski area, the results for each factor are summed up. Then the result of the most valuable ski area (currently: 78 percent) is set to ten, the results of the other ski areas are scaled accordingly.

The following table provides the results of the Montenius ski area valuation for ten different ski areas.
